It’s an offbeat, eclectic (and very popular!) event, which has attracted well over 140,000 attendees and about 1000 artists over it’s three year history.

Burleigh Pro                                              29 – 31 Jan, 2016
Roxy & Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast,      28 Feb  – 11 Mar. 2016

Burleigh ProAs a bonus, Bleach* Festival coexists with the annual launch of the World Surfing Tour, the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro. In its own right, the WSL competitions offers more than enough of an incentive to stay locally. Bleach* is the irresistible icing on the cake, really.

If the coast’s world-class events and attractions sound pretty appealing, why not check out  Gemini Court in beautiful Burleigh Heads?

Bleach

You’ll be situated a short drive from all of the best Bleach* events and, of course, an extensive array of other great attractions, including Australia’s best theme parks, world-class dining and leisure precincts and a distinctly laid back ambience you’ll struggle to find anywhere else.

Really, Bleach* Festival is a great example of this casual atmosphere in action.

A chaotic affair, the annual event impresses year on year with its thought-provoking displays and off-the-wall acts. It’s something different entirely, and an experience well worth undertaking, whether you’ve got the kids in tow, or you’re taking in the sights solo. The festival’s organisers describe Bleach* as a travelling road show, a festival and a canvas for Gold Coast culture. Honestly, the description rings true.

As a welcome bonus, many of the festival’s activities, musical acts and art installations are located outdoors, along Currumbin Beach and other waterside locations scattered across the Gold Coast’s sunny shores. You couldn’t ask for a better backdrop, really.

Bleach Ted Grambeau

As an example of what’s in store for Bleach* 2016, let’s take a quick look back at last year’s offering, which was extensive, to say the least.

Held from March 6, and opened with a cracker launch at Coolangatta and Kirra, complete with a huge costumed mullet meet and greet (yes, you heard right…), a show by THE ANTS and a striking Indigenous performance, recognising the Aboriginal owners of the Gold Coast.

Also held across the weekends were silent film nights, public picnics, complete with live entertainment, and Sequins and Sinew; a sensational combination of acrobatics, aerial arts and dance.

Additionally, art exhibitions are an integral part of Bleach*, with first-class examples of local talent, and works from farther afield, available to peruse largely at your leisure. As mentioned, a number of the installations are located outdoors, taking advantage of breathtaking scenery.

Meanwhile, just up the road at Tugun (near Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary) the Tooloona Street Festival served up a storm in 2015. The street festival featured food stalls, live music, cooking demonstrations, local restaurants and an array of cool kid’s workshops to keep the little ones happy.

Really though, it’s difficult to highlight what could and should be on at Bleach* 2016 – the event evolves year on year and its likely March will host a number of exciting new surprises.

Check www.bleachfestival.com.au for more information about the festival, which is an initiative of Connecting Southern Gold Coast.

So many events and activities in the up and coming months

In the coming months the Gold Coast serves up it’s constant colourful array of fresh events and activities, from thought-provoking sculpture festivals, to screaming jet boat journeys. Whether you’re looking to escape the rat race to kick back and relax, or keen to keep active and soak up the atmosphere, it’s got you covered.

And despite the winter chill setting in across much of Australia, you’ll find moderate temperatures await – some locals (and tourists!) can’t resist a refreshing dip. The Gold Coast boasts 52 kilometres of coastline, so there’s no shortage of picturesque locations at their disposal, after all. A stay at Gemini Court in the heart of the Gold Coast provides an enjoyable hub, right in the middle of all the action.

While you’re on the coast, you’ll want to check out the eclectic Swell Sculpture Festival, which will be held along Currumbin Beach from September 11 to 20. This year’s free display, the festival’s 13th, will feature more than 50 sculptures constructed by local and international artists.

Swell FestivalOver the 10 days there’ll be opportunities to take part in interesting talks by a variety of artists, artist master classes and kids workshops. There’s also the Swell Smalls Gallery, which will be an intimate exhibition of smaller works by exhibiting artists, and Twilight Sculpture Walks, hosted by the festival’s curators.

A variety of international, national and local talent has also signed up for the Swell Sounds stage. The line-up’s yet to be confirmed, but organisers have promised “outstanding musicians and bands to complement your afternoon”.

Swell Festival1This year’s festival will be the fourth in which local kids from Palm Beach Currumbin High School contribute – their Claymation display will be a head turner, that’s for sure. Animated narratives inspired by the festival’s sculptures, they’re bound to showcase imaginative new perspectives on the event’s striking drawcards.

Based at Pacific Parade, Currumbin, the exhibition is open 24 hours, so there’s a chance to catch the sculptures under a variety of different conditions, giving new perspective on some particularly strange and thoughtful designs.

Food options include Currumbin Vikings Surf Life Saving Club, Elephant Rock Cafe, The Beach Shack Cafe, or you could even drop into Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s cafe for a bite or two, with a curious view.

More information on Swell Sculpture Festival is available at www.swellsculpturefestival.com.au.

Swell Sculpture Festival’s certainly an interesting diversion, but perhaps you’re looking to get the blood pumping during your Gold Coast getaway? Gold Coast Jet X, Australia’s largest jet boat company, probably has you covered.

The popular tourist attraction, located in the heart of Surfers Paradise, boasts one of the country’s fastest jet boat adventure rides. The beastly boats’ powerful turbo motors launch the vessels to speeds exceeding 80kmh, complete with a thrilling combination of spins, powerslides and tricky turns.

Gold Coast JetxThe ride takes you through the Gold Coast Broadwater, the Seaway, to Wavebreak and South Stradbroke Island – you’ll be surprised at just how little water these impressive boats need to operate on. And this is despite them chewing through 30,000 litres of water per minute. That’s enough to empty an average backyard swimming pool in 55 seconds.

Jet X is very popular with tourists and has a strong safety record, to complement its healthy serve of thrillseeking waterborne madness.

If you’re after another hit of adrenaline make sure Dreamworld , Movie World or Seaworld theme parks grace your Gold Coast itinerary. They’re located a short drive from Burleigh Heads Gemini Court Holiday Apartments.
